Romance Revisited: Soona Man Ka Aangan

It is a really wonderful feeling when you are given the chance to slip into a magical world- one far away from your own messed up one; in another day and age and in an another lifetime. This is the opportunity that the film Parineeta provides us with. The story is of two people who are in love from childhood and how the rich boy’s father keeps the poor girl away from her soul mate. A rather done to death plot, but the way it has been handled is simply superb.

Something that contributes in a big way to the success of Parineeta is the mind blowing soundtrack- it is simply out of this world. This was also one of the requirements as Shekhar (Saif Ali Khan) is a truly gifted composer in the film. Soona Man Ka Aangan is one of the great tracks from this block buster sound track. The lyrics are so sweet and virginal - completely unadulterated and untouched. They remind you of the yesteryears, which is the era in which the movie is set. It is a beautiful love song between the lead couple- Saif Ali Khan and Vidya Balan.

To go with the sensational lyrics, there is perfect music. It compliments the song and blends with it. Sweet and melodious, it lifts the heart up and leaves you with a smile on your face. It expertly swerves between different styles of music- such is the mastery of the composer. The piano has never been used as well in a Hindi film song.

When everything is so perfect, how can the singers not be just the same? They are more than perfect, giving one of the best performances of their careers. Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal have really done a fantastic job on this track- there is just the right amount of love, reproach and camaraderie. You can actually hear the smile in their voice- such is the level to which they have slipped under the skin of the characters.
