Ishq Ki Raat from Chaahat Ek Nasha
Although it was released hardly two years back, the film Chaahat Ek Nasha will really draw a blank with most people- it came and went without much of a trace. The cast includes Manisha Koirala, Preeti Jhangiani and Aryan Vaid- yes, you are right, not the perfect mix for a hit. Most have never heard of this drama flick and those who have wish they hadn’t.
But surprisingly, the sound track is quite decent. In fact, there are many who have appreciated the work of Anand Raj Anand. From one of the top favorites, we have Ishq Ki Raat dominating the list. The song is about love, longing the night and rain- all perfect ingredients for a great romantic song. It is a pivotal song in the film where the three characters are singing of their inner desires and anguish.
The lyrics are quite endearing- they are reminiscent of an era long gone by and there will be those who will enjoy the simplicity and beauty of the song. They capture the mood of the song and convey to the listener the state of the characters- the ones in love and the scorned one, both done equally well.
The music is quite versatile- while it starts off very predictably and traditionally, we do hear shades of western classical styles like the opera in the middle of the song and then before you catch it, it slips back into its traditional mode.
Then the singers themselves add value to the song. As usual Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan have done a great job. But the best part of the song is undoubtedly Shreya Ghoshal- her magical voice has rubbed off on the song and it enchants the listener. The sweetness and purity certainly flows through and it makes listening to Ishq Ki Raat an enjoyable experience.
All in all, a great song to listen to and even though you might have given the movie a well deserved miss, check the album out and especially Ishq Ki Raat. It will take you into another mood and make you think about the time you were in a similar situation.
